Vendor HIghlight: Spincycle Yarns
Spincycle Yarns is comprised of Rachel Price, Kate Burge and their team. They create a unique product that is "dyed in the wool"; dyed first and then spun into yarn. The result is a beautifully complex skein that has dramatic color changes and life to it. There is nothing like Spincycle!
Kate & Rachel created a special colorway just for Ritual Dyes! It is called Morning Ritual and it captures some beautifully varied greens, golds, pinks and blues. I love it so much! This pic of Rachel & Kate was taken on a hike we did last Rhinebeck, it was so fun! Remember friends?! Getting this package was like a great big hug from them both.
We had an opportunity to talk more with Kate and Rachel. See below for our sweet Q&A!
RD: You two are the cutest! Tell us about how you met and what this fiber marriage has been like so far.
SY: Our fiber marriage has been a long and very complete one! We met over 15 years ago cashiering at the local coop. We filled our down moments with fiber chat and realized that we had the same approach to making yarn (this was the bad old days of confetti and eyelash yarn).
RD: Spincycle yarn is so unique! What is the inspiration behind the
colorways you create and what keeps you inspired?
SY: During the aforementioned bad old days of boring yarn, there really wasn’t many options to spice up your knitting, so we basically had to make the yarn we wanted to see in the world. One of my greatest joys is putting unusual colors together in the pot. That specific pleasure has not dissipated in all these years. It’s not too hard to stay inspired, especially with all of the lovely feedback we get from knitters who turn our skeins into beautiful works of art.
RD: Salty or Sweet ?
SY: Salty every day, all week. Little known fact about Rachel: She has never even tried soda pop!
RD: If you weren't knitting, what would you be doing- what are your
other hobbies?
other hobbies?
SY: Our other great loves, after knitting of course… Just walking around. Call it hiking, call it traveling to new places. Rachel takes pictures and I look at plants or architecture.
RD: Would you rather...
Knit with one base for the rest of your life?
OR
Knit with the same color forever?
RD: Would you rather...
Knit with one base for the rest of your life?
OR
Knit with the same color forever?
SY: I’d pick sport weight for the rest of my life. It’s thin enough for everything to be wearable in all seasons (here in the P N Dub) and thick enough to finish things.
Rachel is dangerously close to already living her life cloaked in smoky teal!
