Visible Mending and Mindful Stitching with Annie Sibul (helped by Jackson Loftus)
Visible Mending and Mindful Stitching with Annie Sibul (helped by Jackson Loftus)
Join Annie and Jackson for a few hours of fun, learning, and sewing, all about the magic that is repairing your own clothing! Repairing the garments we have is about recognizing the worth of what already exists and refusing to get swept up in the churn of fast fashion and endless consumption. In this class we will learn how to do simple hand sewn repairs, patching, Japanese visible mending, and creative embroidery. Materials will be provided for the class, but feel free to bring any fabric or thread you would like to use. And don't forget, bring your ripped and broken garments to class!

Instructor
Hey! My name is Annie and I am very passionate about all things fiber and reducing our impact on this lovely planet. I have been repairing gear and clothing for almost a decade now, and love teaching others how to fix their own garments. I specialize in outdoor gear and clothing repair, and currently run the repair program for Eugene Gear Traders. I love the art of repairing because it is a soft but meaningful resistance to the message that everything is disposable, and through repair I am able to teach patience with our hands and compassion with our belongings.
