In this course you will learn how to embroider with glass beads by adding texture, color, and dimension to your designs. Integrating different stitches and techniques to create your own embellishment piece. We will begin by making a small circle with a few rows of different stitches with beads and from there you will be able to elaborate the piece into your own design using the techniques learned.

Prerequisites

• No previous knowledge or experience in drawing or embroidery is required, just the desire to learn.

• Beading needles, thread, washable fabric marker, fabric, 6-inch embroidery hoop, glass beads are included in the class

Instructor
My name is Isa Guadalupe Medina and I am a designer and artist from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, currently living in Portland, Oregon. My work focuses on the intricacy and detail that is reflected from nature and my roots. The different motifs I create are inspired by feelings that emerge from the rare beauty and constant change of nature. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons The New School for Design, New York. Since then I have been focusing on creating hand-beaded and woven pieces that explore movement and transience of time in relation to the human body/experience.

My work as an artist has always been focused on the flora and fauna of my surroundings. I am guided by the constant change and ephemerality of life in nature. I am intrigued by small textural details. Working with beads and textiles has taught me patience and appreciation of intricate work and the value of slow art. My goal is to be able to extend and share what I learn with others through my research projects and contribute in helping the nature that inspires my work.

Cancellation Policy
Classes require a minimum of 3 students. An emailed notification of cancellation will be sent 2 days before the class if the minimum is not met. In the case of shop cancellation, all registered students will be refunded the class fee. Any additional fees including materials and the shipping of materials are non-refundable. Student cancellations, missed classes or no-shows can not be refunded, exchanged or transferred.
