Little Free Fiber Library

Little Free Fiber Library

This cute thing !

After getting the idea from one of my dear stockists, Wild Hand in Philadelphia, I knew we needed one of these in Portland.

The Little Free Fiber Library is up and running!

With lots of hands, this cute idea came together. It is stocked up with free fiber, tools, knitting books and whatever other maker related items we have to donate. If you feel called to leave something behind, please do! The hope is that we can get more people engaged with handwork and to connect with our community. I think it offers an opportunity to try a new craft without any financial investment, an opportunity to play. It also gives crafters an outlet to share valuable materials that they no longer have a use for. Win-Win!

My kiddos contributed by knitting and crocheting this little yarn bomb for the tree.

Janae, our favorite plant fairy added all kinds of beautiful flowers and succulents to make the library really special.

Here is my original watercolor design painted right into my astrological planner. I think it came out pretty close to what I was envisioning! A local builder, Jason Baddon made this for us out of cedar with acrylic doors. My measurements are included in the pic below for anyone interested in creating something similar. How amazing would it be if there were many more little free fiber libraries?!

If you come by, grab something! If you make something with it, please tag us #ritualdyesfiberlibrary

Please note that we are very happily accepting donations of fiber & maker tools from afar.

I’m so proud of you and your friends for building this community craft library. I have a bunch of lovely skeins I would love to give to the library. I’m almost 73 yrs old and although I’m in great health, I worry that if I leave this planet without getting my stash a new home, my loved ones will give it a toss🤦‍♀️

Lovely! I run ‘The Fibrary’ in Minneapolis, and our first anniversary is this week!

Love this! I will see if there is one in San Francisco as I have yarns in my stash that I know i will not use. If not, I will see about making it happen with feedback from other makers.
Love your designs and the process of making it happen. The living roof is amazing!

I absolutely love this idea! First books, then food and now this! Where will the Little Libraries go next??? Great way to build community.
