Intro to Crochet Class (November 6th) with Elspeth Vance
Intro to Crochet
In this class, you will learn the basics of crochet and create cute and colorful granny squares.
Crochet Basics: Granny squares
Granny squares are the building blocks of beginner crochet. These satisfying little squares can be colorful or monotone, perfectly flat or dappled with texture, wildly complex or sweetly simple. Each square is small and uncomplicated and relatively quick to make. Hook up one or ten in a sitting and watch your pile of squares grow taller.
Students in this class will learn the anatomy of a granny square, a few fundamental crochet stitches, how to join yarn and weave in ends. Students can expect to make at least one granny square from start to finish within the class. Once the basics of construction are learned you’ll be hooked!

Elspeth Vance is a fiber artist and textile designer, living and working in Portland OR. Under the umbrella of her brand, Noctiluca, she knits one-of-a-kind garments and home goods by hand on two needles. Her designs investigate various textile structures and seek to uncover their commonalities; how is weaving like knitting? Or knot tying like weaving? These explorations have led her to reinterpret historic weave drafts into charted knitting patterns, a delightful marriage of her most beloved textile practices.
