Filet Crochet: In this advanced-beginning crochet class we will level up your crochet skills! “Filet” meaning net in french, is a lace making technique wherein a gridded net is constructed and, selectively, open cells are filled in to create simple, monochromatic designs. In this workshop you will learn the basics of filet crochet and construction techniques. Students will learn to read and work from a chart to create a filet swatch and will be provided instruction to make their swatches into a small mesh bag!

Prerequisite
Elspeth Vance is a fiber artist and textile designer, living and working in Portland OR. Under the umbrella of her brand, Noctiluca, she knits one-of-a-kind garments and home goods by hand on two needles. Her designs investigate various textile structures and seek to uncover their commonalities; how is weaving like knitting? Or knot tying like weaving? These explorations have led her to reinterpret historic weave drafts into charted knitting patterns, a delightful marriage of her most beloved textile practices.
